The long over due break I and the rest of my classmates so desired finally arrived and will end on Tuesday of the coming week. One thing I can say about the Easter break was that I enjoyed it even though I didn't get everything I wanted. The princess in me is a little ticked about that but I'll get over it. Eventually.
For some time now , I became fascinated if you will, with the countryside. Now I grew up in the 'urban' area of the country, if you want to get technical it is a rural area but Jamaicans that live in the real rural areas consider it to be 'town'. As I was saying I became really fascinated with the country side , planning my life around living in that area and a trip to St.Elizabeth fostered that fascination even more. With the growth of this fascination , I decided that I would spend some time with relatives that live in that type of place. So on Wednesday, the same day I completed that last exam , I came home, packed my bags and by 6 pm I was on a bus to St.Ann.
The ride there was so long even  though I think that was because it was dark out and I couldn't see much and I was anxious to get there and it was also my first time EVER travelling a long distance by myself, imagine my paranoia. I got there pretty late, I don't quite remember the time. If you know anything about Ocho Rios, St.Ann, then you'd know that it's quite a sight to see. It's a pretty 'boasy' town and I came to find that the people there are pretty much  the same as the people in town. There was the loud angry 'loada man', the men who found passengers for the taxis, two put on quite a show, that I had to laugh at and I don't really smile in public, there was the older guy that made an advance that I quickly shut down, there was the idle school kids who for some reason were not yet home and there were the attention seeking girls who made a scene and behaved bold and boisterous for no apparent reason. Shortly my cousin arrived, my hostess for my stay there, and we soon got a taxi and left to go to Lime Hall, which to my surprise isn't just one whole community, it's actually like a really long road going up hill with different communities along the side. Forgive me for being stereotypical of how 'country' is supposed to look.
Anyway our first stop was Pine Hill, that I found so hard to climb, that hill is actually a piece of land owned by one family with the last name Pine and over 30 individuals occupy the space, in different houses of course. I later learned that unlike in town, most families tend to stick together and live as in the space , not too strange but for the whole of 3 or 4 generations to live together in one yard is a little too much of a close knit family. Anyway we soon left there to go to my aunt's which was where we slept, we bought food, it was terrible to my surprise. But anyway it was my first time being at my aunt's house and can I tell you it's beautiful, the yard is neatly groomed and so pretty i could frolic there all day and the view from the verandah is pretty good, because they live on a hill you can see right out to the road. But hill, Hill, HILL, the area is so hilly and rocky ,I was basically run-walking when we went out , the next day three dogs nearly ate me, thanks to my screams and frantically running backwards, i saved myself and broke the eggs I was carrying. On Friday we went to the river, unlike the usual country experience , these guys actually told me I was in for a walk and a walk it was indeed. I was so tired and the track was so close the the edge of a hill, if i had tripped i would have tumbled down into the rocky part of the river and broken a few bones. I had to remove my slippers and trek barefoot, along with some sliding and running and hopping. Finally we got to the river, it was pretty cool and the water was cold. I liked it there but soon we moved on to another river, which was another long walk but I liked that one better. It had a glistening blue hole and waterfall. I even dived into the water to display my swimming skills , even though the guy had to solemnly swear he'd save me if anything happened. Pretty nice guy.
The journey back was so tiresome, we literally climbed , we took a short cut, they said. We climbed up a hill, went down a hill, up another one, them climbed, like rock climbing type of climb to get to the road then we walked backwards up another hill cause our feet hurt. We made a rest stop which was where I found out that a flimsy bag juice is for $20. Country prices they say. We got back, my hair was curled and showed my Indian decent, lol. My cousin had to get home though so we quickly rushed and headed out and to Falmouth, Trelwany. Thank the lord Falmouth is flat, we travelled by night to there wasn't much sight to see, we made a food stop.My favourite kind and then got to her house. It was pretty cool there, we chilled in the morning, a little cousin bonding and in the night we headed into the town. It's so cute there, from the looks of it the town is old and they just refurbished the buildings but for some reason it appealed to me, there are little chill spots everywhere, from a cool mid-western look restaurant to a park near by this huge brick building that I didn't get around to figuring out what it was to another park in  the middle of the town 'watersquare'. It was pretty busy and after we bought a few things we sat there and watched this 'mad' man perform his shenanigans, which were pretty entertaining. We got in at about 12 and quickly retired to bed , I didn't even know when I got knocked out. The rest of the days were pretty chill, I came home early and missed what was supposed to be the highlight of my trip  because of Alpha, but Cape calls so i'm not really bummed. It was a pretty good trip and it changed my whole perspective and got me moving with all the climbing and running.I had a great  time, really relaxing. Next Time, i'll have way more to tell. CIAO
