Riverdale: Archie and Friends

So, I've been a fan of Archie comics since primary school and I used to have a large collection of Jughead, Cheryl Blossom, Betty and Veronica, Archie and Friends, Josie and the Pussycats etc... I even have a collectors Gold Edition. Until somehow they disappeared and I stopped buying them because paying over $1000 was too much and my mother stopped buying them for me as well, so soon I drifted to other material.   Recently I saw a lady selling a used copy for $100 and I had to get it because you don't see that very often, and I saw a guy selling brand new copies for 200 each, imagine my excitement.  I've even downloaded the app and read the free ones whenever I can so you can say I'm back on the comic train. Now after making these purchases , I happened upon the archie comics Instagram page and lo and behold, they're making a tv series based of the books which would be premiering in the next 2 weeks. It was like a god sent message and so I anticipated the premier which was yesterday January 26, 2017. The day my favourite characters would come to life. The first thing I picked up on was how the characters were changed to suit the plot, if you haven't watched it yet , you should, I think it promises to be good because I totally have no idea where this plot may lead, hopefully it's not cliche. *fingers crossed*
  Anyhow, here's what's new.

Archie:

Archie and I have a love-hate relationship in the comic books because he almost always neglect Betty for Veronica. Betty is usually taken for granted and used to his advantage, usually so Veronica can benefit even though he's oblivious to the reality and just thinks that Betty genuinely likes doing things for him as a friend. In Riverdale Archie seems to be more career focused that girl phased. He's usually trying to take out every and any girl that'd give him the time of day in the comics. In Riverdale I noticed Archie seems to be concerned about Music and Football. Even though he does take an interest in Veronica, it's totally different from his usual behaviour in the comics.

Broken Families:
Ok, so basically Hiram lodge has been replaced by Hermoine Lodge, usually in the comics we see more of Hiram than Hermoine, you just usually figure that she's there somewhere. But in Riverdale she's the Lodge parent that's presented and we only hear of Hiram and some money scandal of some sort. Archie's mom is missing, apparently she and Mr.Andrews are divorced which bothers me because in the comics there are no broken families, everyone grew up in nuclear families even if you didn't see them you knew they were there so.....

Kevin Keller:
Wait, so Kevin is gay? I was really hoping we didn't have that gay bestfriend but oh yk I guess everyone has to be represented cause Pop is black now , it's kinda fitting though. Oh well.

Reggie and Moose:
Reggie looks    a little asian, I don't mind I actually think the actor captured him very well even though I only saw him twice throughout the episode, I could really see the Reggie Mantle persona. Oh and Moose is gay apparently so does that mean Midge won't be a character or she'll be captured in another way?  hmmm...

Betty and Mrs. Cooper:
Betty is betty, in all her girl next door glory, but I think this series will really show us a different side of Betty and I'm looking forward to it.  Mrs.Cooper is seen more and quite frankly I don't like her, she's that parent and ugh... Haven't seen Mr. Cooper yet either , should he be added to the Broken Families list?

The Blossoms:
So the Blossoms don't live in Pembrooke anymore, so Cheryl attends Riverdale and not Pembrooke Academy, and she's no longer  one of Archie's love interest and Jason is dead .  I really liked Jason actually, Cheryl is the same in character however, snotty and really bitchy. Nothing new there.

Ms. Grundy:
Now here's the shocker, Ms. Grundy is young and hot far contrast from the buck tooth gray haired home room teacher and she teaches music now, I really don't know what she taught in the comics, that wasn't really stated and she's a love interest of Archie? Can you say Eeew from a comic reader's point of view.  Anyway let's see how this goes.

Jughead:
So Jughead is played by Cole Sprouse , and I think Dylan would've been a better choice to act as Jughead direct from the comic books, If I'm  right about the side of Jughead the writers are trying to explore then I think Cole is the perfect guy for the part.  It seems Jughead won't be the junk food connoisseur we've come to know and love, instead they'll be exploring the intellectual side of his character that we've been presented with every now and then and  I can appreciate that.

As the series progresses I hope I don't get bored because I'm not one to keep up if my interest waivers.
