If you know me, or my friends then you'd know that I'm a little selfish, maybe a lot. Trust me though it's not overbearing because I'm still nice when I should be and all. Usually I wouldn't admit this openly because people tend to dislike persons who're selfish, while I can understand that, some persons act like it's the most terrible characteristic to have and you know why? Because it doesn't suit them and now tell me, isn't that a little selfish?
No-one does anything without having a reason, people hardly care about something that doesn't affect them or is in no way connected to them. Trust me. People generally dislike 'selfish people' because they're not trying to help them hold up the facade that the average man displays so proudly. The difference is your general stance on an issue, for example,
"Jody and Cameron have been asked to assist their church for harvest, Both girls are 6th form students sitting CAPE exams the following week after the event, Cameron boldly exclaims "no, I can't be bothered and I have exams" while Jody quickly agrees and begins thinking of a 'selfless' caption that would suit the kind of photo she'll take on the day which she'll later post on Instagram displaying her efforts"
Now I don't know if it's just me, but I can't stand people who post their volunteer work on their personal Instagram accounts especially with a cliche caption that's a dead give away that maybe you didn't go there just to be the humanitarian you claim to be. In my opinion, Jody is just as selfish as Cameron or even more, yes Cameron isn't participating because she's disinterested as well as she's mainly concerned for herself and she's putting herself first in this situation (something a lot of people need to learn how to do) while Jody is literally participating just to get pictures so she can get likes on Instagram, to please who? Herself. See, people forget that being selfish comes in many forms, it's just that some of us (me) like to put it out there but of course the world doesn't accept blatancy, they like it sugar coated.
Listen, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being selfish, don't change that because people don't like it, no one does anything they don't care about if there's no benefit, trust me. Ask an advocate for safe sex why they promote so hard, highly likely it's because someone they know died from aids or is living with aids. Why do you think it's so hard for people to rally together, when the poor suffer from high taxes, the rich don't bat an eye, but if gas prices skyrocket to the point where even they can't afford it, that's when they'll actually open their mouth. Trust me, it's so hard to care about issues that don't affect me, and people only have an issue because it affects them. You can't bash someone for not engaging in something because they're genuinely disinterested.
I watched a barbie movie once, and the line that stuck with me was "in a selfish world, the selfish succeed" And I live by this because unlike it movies, good doesn't always trump evil and sometimes the good are subject to the harshest treatment. It's just life , depending on which philosophy you follow you might agree or not.
