Lets Talk: Shades
I've been inconvenienced by the world's most serious case of writer's block. Anyway what matters is that I'm here.
Hi Beauties.
So last week my friends and I had a little chat before our killer exams , about racism, prejudice etc.. all the concerns surrounding black skin, the stereotypes and it's effects.. this led to me sharing a little tid bit of my past, while growing up I was the only dark skin child among my cousins who I grew up with at the time and as I grew older I realized that persons generally go for the lighter skin girls, especially for choice in companionship. Fortunately I possess somewhat of a god complex so I wasn't phased.
However as time progressed and I developed a love for history especially Caribbean History, I found myself rooting for women with more melanin, also getting upset when people try to undermine the strength and passion that is a black woman. A lot of girls have suffered at the hands of their ignorant peers, especially in Jamaica where the name calling is brutal. They're used to hearing "oh yu black and ugly " "black attack" etc.. However the one that ticks me of the most is "yu pretty fi a black girl"
Despite all the issues, I've noticed a lot of girls loving the skin they're in, especially the girls who god blessed with the right shade of chocolate, whether milk or dark. It's almost a trend now, to love the skin you're in and while people do get excessive with all the "melanin" captions, It's great to see women of colour basking in the sun, and showing all the beauty they were blessed with. Now everybody wants to be black and this is where I express the love for the skin I'm in. I try my best to keep it 'dark and lovely' and I won't be lightening up (pun intended) any time soon cause I'm a cup of espresso , no cream and loving it.
GO be perfect hershey Bars OR Vanilla lasco (for my lightskin girls)
*It's not what people see honey, it's what you know.
Good stuff
